Burn the Fat Review By Someone Who Actually Used It

Burn the Fat ReviewIf you’ve read my weight loss story, you know that I not only read, but followed the fat loss plan set out in Tom Venuto’s Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, unlike many so-called “review sites,” which are nothing more than elaborate sales pages by people who clearly never used the program. My Burn the Fat review is based not only on several thorough readings of Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, but also on my personal experience in following the plan for close to 4 years (which should give you a strong idea of where this review is headed). Do any of the following descriptions apply to you:

What is the Best Exercise to Lose Belly Fat?

The best exercise to lose belly fat isn’t crunches, sit-ups, planks or any other isometric exercise which works the abdominal muscles. No, the best exercise to lose belly fat is cardio, pure and simple. Whether it’s jogging, cycling, cross-country skiing or aerobics, any form of cardio that can get your heart rate to 80% of its maximum will do.

A recent study by researchers at Duke University published in the August 2011 American Journal of Physiology compared the benefits of weight training and cardio in combating belly fat — specifically visceral fat lodged around your internal organs which is recognized as a risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. The 8-month long study consisted of 198 overweight adults with sedentary lifestyles.

Calorie Counting Isn’t as Hard as It Sounds

When most people hear the phrase “counting calories”, they imagine some tedious process which involves breaking out a calculator every time they want to eat. It’s really not that bad, and once you know the basic calorie counts of your regular foods it becomes something you don’t even think about. The hard truth is that if you want to get serious about losing that belly fat, you are going to have to count calories.

Lose Belly Fat and Stop Heartburn

Back when I was over 220 lbs, I suffered from heartburn every single night. The burning feeling was made worse by lying down, making it a struggle to get to sleep. At one point, I was taking Prilosec every morning and Zantac at night just to try to feel better. Often, even this combination of drugs was unsuccessful. I don’t know how much money I wasted on heartburn pills and Tums over the years, but it was probably the cost of a motorcycle. Ultimately, the only thing that stopped my heartburn was losing a lot of belly fat.

Want to Burn Fat While Sitting? Sit on a Ball

Would you like to burn fat while sitting at your desk, or while watching TV? Use an exercise ball for your chair. Just balancing on the ball, or making small circles while you sit, will burn a lot more calories than sitting on a regular chair (about 100 calories per hour). Simple little changes like this add up over time. Plus, sitting on a ball will help your posture and strengthen your core. It may feel a little weird at first, but you will get used to it. I love cheap solutions that burn calories without a lot of effort. This is one of the cheapest and easiest I know. The 75cm sized ball pictured at the right is a good chair size for most, and it’s rated for up to 1200 lbs (some others are rated only 300 lbs, which may be pushing it if you plan to move around on it — which you do.)

Belly Fat Can’t Be Fixed By Crunches

Despite what you may have heard to the contrary, crunches are not the path to six-pack abs. You could do 200 crunches a day and never have good looking abs. If your goal is to lose belly fat and have a well-defined stomach, you need to focus on getting as lean as possible. As long as you have a layer of belly fat covering your abs, your abs will never show through. If you want to get rid of that fat, there are far better exercises than crunches.

How Many Calories Do You Burn Each Day?

Before you start any fat loss program, you need to know how many calories your body burns each day. Why? Because you’re going to have to eat fewer calories than that in order to lose fat. It’s basic math: eat fewer calories than you burn and you lose weight; eat more calories than you burn and you gain weight.

This makes it very important to know how many calories you burn right now. Now, before you run off and slap an expensive electronic calorie monitor on your arm, you can figure out your daily calorie burn a much cheaper way. All it involves is measuring your body fat (which you need to do anyway) and doing some (mostly) simple math.

Belly Fat Got You Down? How I Lost 70 lbs and Kept It Off

Belly Fat - BeforeJust so you know where I’m coming from, here’s a picture of me from 2008 when I weighed over 220 lbs. I was 37 years old, and I had been out of shape and fat for most of my life. I knew I was “overweight,” but in my delusional mind I didn’t think I was fat. Well, I was. It wasn’t until after an argument with a total jerk who called me “fat” that the truth really began to sink in — and it started to really bother me. Within 6 months of changing my eating habits, I had lost 50 lbs. I hadn’t exercised at all during this time, but I was starting to approach the “hard to lose” pounds. So, I added exercise to my program and within 3 months after that, I had lost a total of over 70 lbs. You can see my first year weight chart to see how much I lost each week. I felt great, looked a hell of a lot better, and actually had people call me thin. The best part was, I knew that this wasn’t some “phase” that would wear off, releasing the fat child within me once more. I had learned more about what to eat, how much to eat, and how to get rid of body fat during that time than I had during the entirety of my life up until then.
